Recently the fuel pump on my 1500 crapped out and I had it replaced. On cold starts the truck seems to be fine, but when warm starting, the truck likes to crank for a while... I had my ear to the tank and the pump is loading up.. could this be a bad pump??

 

Best thing to do is perform and fuel pump pressure test procedure on the system and make sure it is acting rite.

I'd test to see if the pressure was ok on the fuel pump also.

 

I found that a dirty/faulty intake air temperature sensor will cause hard(lots of cranking) starting. You may wish to take it out and clean it with a deluge of aerosol sensor cleaner.

 

Mite look at the service intervals.... The Spark plugs might need to be changed ????

 

I'm going to be replacing the plugs to see if it helps the problem... everywhere I look I get different answers so I want a third opinion. Should the plugs be gapped at 40 thousandths??

 

Set them at 0.045 gap...

Correct me if I'm wrong? But I think the service interval is 30,000 miles for spark plugs for those engines ???..

Difficult hot starts could be a starter issue drawing too many amps and needs replaced.
But if it's cranking normally then probably not...

 

I would agree... Alternators will cause big issues now days... Grounds also...

 

Have the crank sensors been checked?
And this all started after the fuel pump change? Rite?
