Talking 1968-69 426 Hemi Block VS. New Hemi Block

I might have a chance to purchase a 1968-69 hemi 426 block in very good condition.

My question is this. Since whatever I put the block into will not be #s matching is a date coded block worth more than a new reproduction block?

My friends tell me two different stories.
1. A 1968-69 block is worth more to an enthusiast and has more prominance than a new block.
2. SInce I will never have a #s matching situation it doesn't make a difference and the date coded block is not worth the effort.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
