1977 440 oil pump removal

First time tearing into one, bolts are removed but still cant get the pump to budge. It is painted over and gasket is probably helping a bit but I just don't want to yank and pull on this thing. Anyone have any suggetions?

Why do you need to remove the oil pump ?? Put the old filter on it and give it a few wackes with a hammer

got it off...it was actually a high pressure pump...Still replaced it with the new high volume. Anyone have two cents about which is better? I figured more volume better than more pressure

There is a concern of mine with your HV pump...it pumps more oil for sure...do you have an extra 3 quarts of oil for it....meaning that at high rpm you can drain your oil pan while you wait for all of the oil on top of the motor to drain back down to the pan....HV pump usually requires an 8 quart pan....just M2C

Interesting take! I've always wondered about the hi-volume vs hi-pressure paradox!

I sucked the pan dry with one on a 360. Lifters were noisy on the return road and the oil pressure was never the same Ended up breaking the crank, I thing it was due to flex from excess brg clearances

How did you get it off? I'm struggling with the same issue. Pump stuck on block.
