Got this dodge ram 1500 that has a transmission issue. the transmission has park, neutral, drive, and 1st gear but for some great reason it doesn't have reverse. don't think it's the linkage and I'm going to change the transmission fluid to see if it fixes it. any help would be appreciated.

 

Scan it for codes.... Also dose the fluid look black or dark? Make sure it is topped off to the correct level.... If all that is good, you could pull the pan and see what laying in the bottom.....
If 81 still has a band? check the setting for that or see if its out of adjustment.... Beyond that... TCM electronics or going to need a remanufactured unit.
