318 cars

318 cars
I have been out of the Mopar business for a while and trying to get back in. The prices have sky rocketed. When I was in it the 340 and 440 cars were the only ones you should buy. Now, it seems that if you can buy a 318 car it really does not matter. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Looking to buy?????

Hard to say, kinda depends on what you want to do with it (meaning how much you want to spend or how much you can do yourself AND what the purpose of the car will be).
The 318 is a great workhorse, and you can get power out of it, but the old saying that there's no replacement for displacement still holds.
So, going back to my original question, for a cruiser, kinda hard to beat, because you can make decent power and drive all day and night without a lot of headaches. If you want something that will tear up the strip, sure you can do it, but it might be a lot easier with more cubic inches.

My only advice is that if you want to buy dont wait for the economy to pick back up, cause when it does people are going to have more money to spend on this sort of thing and as the other guy said, pickings are slim already so prices will sky-rocket. There isn't too much grand old mopar muscle left, get your share of it while you still can.

im in the market for an old mopar car myself i already have an 84 ram and a 98 ram and i do like my 318 la and my 360 magnum but a 440 in a charger would be a lot of fun. and yes they are getting a lot harder to find. so if you find a good deal on one i would get it. you can always change the engine and tranny over to whatever you want or can afford.

If you are looking to buy and sell the time to buy is now, but sell (?)
If your looking to sell em you still want the best you can buy to start with. The 340, 440,& Hemis cars are still top dog, just not as available as the 318 cars. I have seen a /6 Dart in a magazine, as a top points winner in the restored original class.
If you just mean you wanna play with a car, then get what you can afford. If you like it, drive it that way. If you want more, a swap is no big deal. Few folks care about a 318s being original.

Seems like in my neck of the woods prices are down from a few years ago but that still doesnt mean there are many around, my opinion is if you can buy it right your probably going to get your money back out of it

318?
I bought a 71 Charger with a 318 a few years ago. Love it and drive it regularly (good on fuel and no mechanical breakdowns). Sounds fast and looks real nice. Always lots of positive comments from those who appreciate old cars. Just don't street race the new Dodge products with the new hemis (pick-ups, Challengers etc.) cause you will get your butt kicked.

318 cars are great canidates for sleepers. The 318 can be built up as many have said or you can swap it out for a 360 LA or even a Magnum (with a little more work) and you'll have a great pavement pounder.
