360 magnum building for track.

Hi. New here actually have 5.9 JGC 101.000 miles. It's stock with 52 mm tb. I was gonna buy V1 sc. But it just sold this morning. Been looking for decent perfomance mods. I've seen 360 magnum handle nitrous pretty well especially with good tune. I've read EQ Heads. Cam and a Intake is worth around 100 extra hp. But pricey. Any good mods you can give me? It's slowly being build for track 1/8 and might use at 1/4 mile. If i can run below 8.5 in the 1/8 mile i would be happy. 7's is my goal. I just want a decent sleeper truck.

Budget is around 1750 usd.

I've done maintance full tune up. Changed all oil. Got 8.8 from Ford to throw in back if D44 snaps. Trans was rebuilt 1 1/2 year ago. (Stock parts still....) stock torque converter.

sounds like a good start. Need heads with larger valves and a cam to unlock some of the torque. Fuel injectors, throttle body, intake and tune to get it running smooth. 52 mm throttle body in mine is too small and I have procrastinated finding something bigger. Cam will most likely cause you to start getting diagnostic codes for cylinder misfire. Compression is important but you need to decide if you are going to boost it before picking pistons. Bringing in all that extra air means the exhaust needs to be upgraded to properly breath, from headers all the way out. Transmission is next weak point and would benefit from stall convertor/torque convertor. I can't remember what the other guys were using but many moved away from 46RE tranny and all wheel drive to eliminate viscous coupling. It will hold up to some extra power though and can be rebuilt with better friction plates. You already know about the aluminum 44 and it's potential for failure and parts problems. Consider a re-gear to 4.10s with the 8.8 and possibly a traction control/locker. Speed costs money and it adds up fast. Keep us posted on how it goes. There used to be a forum dedicated to GC niners but it died away a couple years ago, there are still some facebook groups though that have a bit of experience upgrading these.
