426 Hemi Crank Question

Hey guys I am looking at buying a 426 hemi from a guy for 8500. But He said that he put a 440 crank in it. Did the 426 hemi's have the same crank as a 440 just different rod length? Also he said the heads on it are new MP steel heads prepped by modern cylinder head. But he doesnt have the intake or carbs for the motor. Is it worth the money since it doesnt have original heads or crank. Also the date code on it is 1-26-70. Also the motor is .060 over. And if they didnt use the same crank any of you have a clue as to what size hemi he was heading for 472, 528, ect,?

Lots to consider here, 1st some facts.
Depending on the casting #'s
The 426 has a bore and stroke of 4.25 X 3.75, the 440 is 4.32 X 3.75
What rods did the guy use ? Thinking of side clearance issues.
B block rods were 6.358 long and RB rods are 6.768 and hemi rods are a little longer again except the wrist pin was 1.031 and used 7/16th bolts as opposed to the 3/8th bolts.
And the fact that your already 60 thou over, it's at its max.
I'd be leery about this bastardized motor, that's just me ?
If your considering spending that much what's a few grand more for a crate engine ? You can get a 426 crate for around 15-17 , just a thought.
You need an intake-$600 or more
Gaskets-$200 give or take
Proper carbs, Holley #'s 4452778 & 4452779 about $2000,
see where Iam going with this ?
Hope I helped, sorry for the long winded rant.

The 440 crank has a 6 bolt flange and the hemi had 8. Also some 440 cranks are cast so I'd take the pan off just to be sure. Forged cranks have a wide parting line on the counterwieghts, cast have a narrow one.

All the above info is correct. Sounds to me like the guys put a bunch of spare parts together to make a fsat buck. I agree w/ polara dude, spend alittle more and get a new crate motor, or find a nother deal somewere else.
