440 mopar/transmission questions

i've been given a 440 from my dads friend to start off for my project (1966 Phoenix) for really good price so i've jumped on it cause its a perfect start. Now i have a A727 TF in the shed in need of a rebuild and i was wondering will it bolt straight up to the 440? the motor should push around 480 500HP once im finished. can anyone recommend a suitable diff for me or should a go with a ford 9".

Your tranny will fit if it's a big block tranny, if it's a small block no. An 8 3/4 mopar rearend will handle your power with no problems, 3.91 gears are a good choice. IMHO.

Diff

The 8.75 drop out was strong enough that they were standard equipment for Hemi powered automatic cars. The Hemi had a factory rating of 425hp however many of the factory setups with the correct owner could achieve upwards of 500hp and with the exception of the 426 max wedge was the top performer of the power slugfest in the 60's and 70's. In fact the fastest factory built muscle car ever was the 1968 Barracuda 426Hemi(not ment for street) that could make a .25 mile fly past in 10.60.
