Just as it said, for instance i'll go get gas, shut the car off pump fuel and boom it wont fire. I dont understand it ive never had this issue. Ive never done the cap and rotor on it, possibly this is a good bet?

 

How 'bout some more info. What is this we are working on, what is the engine combo, and what EXACTLY are you running for ignition?

What do you do to get it started? Cool off? Crank some more? Tow it home and hope?

Have you checked for spark when this happens?

You getting fuel to the ???carb??? efi?? what???

 

have you checked the reluctor to pick up gap in the dist , it should be .008

 

Yea sorry I didn't provide a lot. It's a 440 6 pack carb setup with a Mallory points distributor. I pulled the cap and the distributor rotor and the cap looked a little rough so I'm thinking it's that. The car is sold though, the new owner is aware. It's been such a fun car and I'll miss it.

 

Points type dist -- Change the condenser too !

Very first thing I'd do is check the spark. Buy yourself a spark tester. Lisle makes one that's not very expensive. See if it actually has spark or not when quit. "Might" be fuel boiling instead, flooding
