Hey guys. Ive finally gotten all my new parts ordered and repaire painted etc. my passenger side parking brake cable is snapped and the inlet is hosed. My question is can i remove the actuating lever and the cable assembly right now and still install all the other new drum parts and the rear brakes work as they should? Thnx

 

im looking to put it all back together this evening. any thoughts. I've been studying the pictures and I see that that spreader flat bar in the middle pushes the shoes out when the parking brake is applied. if that is the only purpose of that bar, seems I could do just like the front and leave it out and they would work.


any help or advice would be great. btw, thanks for responding. I'll be on here a ton in the future. I was a member of another one (still am) however they are a little crass at times. Im not a Plymouth expert and need all the advice I can get. thnx

 

Some Sites are Tough...Like "Yellow Bullet"... But there are good folks everywhere. You just have to weed out the Hot Heads and the Knuckle Heads.... All the Gurus like to pick on me..

You can delete that parking break stuff. But i like to leave it all there so I dont loose any of the peaces..... I would Just leave the cables out till I got new ones....

thanks. I hope to have it all together in a couple of days. the master cylinder looks good except for the boot inside the firewall is gone.

ok, so give me some generic tips and terminology on "bench bleeding" the master cylinder guys. Here's my idea...
not really taking it out completely from firewall...it had fluid in it until I changed everything out.
disconnecting the front (and only) brake line from the port...
making a leader of line with the male end to screw back into port...
placing the end of the leader in a bottle of brake fluid (about 3/4 full)...
filling reservoir....
then having my daughter pump brake pedal slowly to remove air and fill master cylinder, always being cautious to not let it go dry and keep it filled.
