Frankie, look on the side of the block, right against the oil pan mounting flange. Passenger's side. There will be a machined pad maybe 1/2" high. If it's a numbers matching engine, the sequence number of the car will be stamped there. The sequence number will also be stamped in about the same place on the tranny.

That is the correct place, however it is the VIN,not the sequence number

Thanks Satellite, You're right. I got it confused with the other stampings on the sheet metal.

If it's a 440,426, or 413 look at the front of the block, in front of the intake. There will be a machined pad cast into the block with a letter and number. A 69 440 will read something like E 440 (and possibly HP) if it's a b block, then there will no pad there, but under the passenger side head, there will be a machined pad with the motor size. If the distributor is in the rear of the engine, you have a small block.

Okay I can tell you on the fender tag, that the top line first 1, v-21, thats hood performance treatment. means that it had the bloack hood stripes. next to bottom line. the a-4,a-4 means the paint code, platinum silver. exterior, roof, then later down that row, another a-4, means the int. color. man thats a cool car. I havent heard of or seen to many a-4 cars, let alone triple silver. id spend the 30 bucks and send a rubbing of the tag to galen and have him document it. even if it isnt a #`s car, thats cool.congrats.
