7 Qt VS 5 Qt Oil Pan

Hey Guys
I have a 68 Charger 383 in my 36 Plymouth and it came with a 7 qt oil pan. There is very low clearance and it keeps getting hit. Can I go to a 5 qt for better clearance?

with a stock oil pump for street use a 5 qt would work. But there are 7 qt low profile pans available..

A stock HP pan with internal acceleration and deceleration baffles will work fine. like said, a stock volume pump for sure.

another option https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/mil-30761

If using a stock pan a windage tray will allow 1/2 qt extra

1968 383 was having problems with my oil meter bouncing, so I replaced it and instead of reading 50 it now reads 90. Should I be worried?
