amc 390 question

recently got a amc 390 from a friend of mine. My question is, will it fit in my 1970 dart? Are they the same motor mounts as the 318/390? Your help would greatly be apreciated

Many will argue that anything will fit in anything. I am putting a turbocharged 360 in an '89 Daytona. I'm not sure anyone makes conversion mounts for your (390 AMC) application, Shumacher would be the place I'd check first, And what about a trans. I don't think the Mopar trans will match up.

You will need conversion mounts (if anyone makes them). As far as bolting it to the tranny, you will need an adaptor as the AMC 258, 304, 360, 390 and 401 motors have a different bolt pattern than that of the Mopar 318, 340 and 360.

Then you will just need mounts for the motor and tranny and some spring perches and shock mounts for the rear axle (brackets if you are linking it).

Best bet,

Sell the combination you have and buy a Mopar engine trans combo. Maybe you could find someone willing to swap?

Actually, it is not a Mopar. AMC was it's own company until Chysler purchased them in which case Chysler then kept the 258, 304, and 360 motors as they were for the Jeep products.

I don't think too many people would give you slack about dropping in an AMC motor into a Mopar, it's just not that common.
