Axle stuff

As some/many of you know, I tinker with axles somewhat. Well I just happen to have come across a free D70-U rear axle out of a 1985 Dodge D350 bread truck. This is one monster axle. 4.10 gears (was behind a 4BT diesel/T19), 8 on 6.5 lug pattern with right and left hand threads, huge drum brakes, and 35 spline axle shafts. Here are some pics, I'll have more to follow (hopefully some axle shafts, axle tubes and pinion gears).

Here is a D44 carrier (left) and the D70-U carrier (right)

Thumbs up

I may be able to cut down and re-spline the D70-U axle shafts and use them in my D44/D60 hybrid rear axle.

Nope. I actually got it for just the spindles and hubs for a high pinion front dana 60 that I have. I ended up cutting off the inner Cs and will set it up using the D70 spindles to build a high pinion rear axle. Great for buggys, jeeps, etc. that want a better driveshaft angle and will help to get it up high off the ground.

Just happened that the axles shafts may fit my rear D44/D60 hybrid axle which would be nice. It's cheaper to cut and re-spline these axles than buying new 4340 chromo shafts. I think I've got some Ch*vy 14B full floating stuff laying around that I can compair this too as well.
