Ball and trunnion style u joiunt??

I have a 64 dodge 880. Sometimes when I put it into gear I hear a "clunk" in the front so I just assume that its probably a u joint. I went down to Oreilly auto parts and they don't show a front u joint for my car, after a little research I found out it has a ball and trunnion front u joint. I guess my question is, can I still purchase one of these? Can it be converted over to a regular u joint? Any information is appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you have a pic of what you are talking about? I can't think of where you would have a u-joint on the front end.

Could just be early and I can't think clearly.

I was way out in left field with this one! I was thinking a front u-joint as in the front end, not the front u-joint of the driveshaft. Wow do I feel silly.

Great link Polaradude! Scott, good news for you, pay someone else to do it! That is why I love this forum. Something as wierd as a ball and trunion issue and someone knows exactly what to do about it! (who the f says trunion any more?)

Thanks for the info guys, this sounds like a nice little winter project. I have never even heard of a trunion, not even 100% sure how to pronounce it!!

Sounds like a DAY project! A ball-and-trunion is nothing more than an inner CV joint. That conversion info was great.
