Brake booster from NAPA help!!

I posted on here a while ago about having to send my brake booster in to NAPA for a rebuild. When I got the booster back the pedal rod was too short. My dad works with metal so he fabricated an extension on and all was great... I fired the car up this weekend and it started idling rough again and was had the same symptoms it had when I had the previous vacuum leak due to a rotten diaphragm. Sure enough the hissing from under the dash was back, and the brakes didn't feel quite right although they were braking decent. So I grab the box they put my booster in and the part number is 54-73547 which is not a matching part number to my car. The part number to my booster should be 50-3533 which might explain why the pedal rod was shorter. My question is did this booster mess up because its for another car? Would they be interchangeable? Would the only difference be the rod length? All the other bolts lined up...I'm going to take it back to NAPA in the morning, but I just didn't know what to tell them, I didn't want to sound like a moron when I'm complaining about the wrong part number, and they are interchangeable. I don't understand how this mistake could happen, if they rebuild the old one!

i took a booster off of a 73 charger and put it on my 66fury i had to make a new rod for the brake pedal, the 66 rod was to short, as long as the booster can be bolted up and the right length rod there should be no problem, id say the booster diaghram is bad again,, you can test them you self, with a vacumm pump.
they could have riped the rubber putting it back together?

Thanks for replying. I agree they probably ripped it when rebuilding it. I don't think there is anything I could have done to tear it up. I called Napa, they said they would take care of it at no charge to me, but that means 2 more weeks without driving my car!

I'm doubting that it is the booster. It might be, but it is unlikely that would be the problem twice. If it was leaking before and after it was rebuilt, it might be something else. There are vacuum lines that control the heater/vent/defrost controls that may be leaking.

Maybe not, but it is worth a check.

It does seem odd for the booster to go out again, but it has to be the issue. if I pull the vacuum line off the booster and plug it, the missing in the engine, and the hissing sound from the brake pedal go away, unless I'm just over looking something, and I may be, all symptoms lead to the brake booster. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open to suggestions, I would like to get this issue resolved for good. I agree with 1966sportsfury, two weeks is going to feel like a month!
