Busy With The Polara!
Morning all!
Been busy with my 64 dodge polara and figured I would share and ask for some advice along the way.
Fresh Rebuild on the Stromberg 3-251 (accelerator pump still isnt working for ****)
New fuel filter (Much needed... and currently need another lol)
New Mechanical Fuel Pump (pain in the *** to get to!!!)
Took the car for a drive to test all the new parts and found out my fuel tank is FULL of dirty nasty rusty crap that needs to come out asap. Popped the fuel filter off and cranked the motor so fuel spilt into a can, was orange/rust colored and full of metal particulate.
Its clogging fuel filters left and right and wont let the car run very far or well... So that is my next project for the upcoming spring break next week!
Hope you all are having a great week and if anyone has ideas on the accelerator pump I would greatly appreciate it.
Johnny

Yep.... Pull and clean tank.... Flush out fuel line and blow out with shop air. New filter.. all new hoses and clamps... Clear out the Fuel pump... Open the carb back up and clean... Put new Fuel in it....

X10 you need clean fuel...Tank,lines,carb, if you rebuilt the carb and put dirty fuel into it it now is a mute point and needs to be cleaned again to many people do it backwards and end up having to start over at the tank...Bill

Make sure the check ball is not stuck in the bottom of the accelerator pump circuit.
What the hell are you looking at....... Get back to work.....

Thank you guys. Yeah in hindsight I never even thought to look in the fuel tank to see if that was the issue and it certainly was
I feel stupid... the sending unit was so lacquered up and full of crap i dont know how i got any fuel at all lol.
I got the majority of the nasty crap out of the tank and was going to look into having it hot dipped to remove the remaining debris. Thoughts?
Other option was going to be try the 3 step "tank sealant/coating".
I blew out the hard line with carb cleaner and air and it seems to be alright.
With regards to the check ball where the hell should it be exactly??
Might sound like a stupid question but I have no idea currently.
Thanks again for the help guys! Y'all rock

Johnny... I hate that tank sealant.... Dont use it if you dont have too... It has been known to come loose at a few years... Just clean it the best you can.
I use the Large steel Scourging pads from like the 99cent store. Screw it to a short stick and do the best you can....
Then If i'm not sure... I'll put 2 filters inline with each other.... If it plugs up on the road... Just take the one out on the tank side. and head for home to replace the plugged filter.... Or carry some extras with you. Just my 2 cents...

Bob, You absolutely rock! Im trying to find a shop in my area that will possibly dip and hot clean the tank like i did with the carb what do you think of that idea instead of the sealant?
My neighbor also has a hotsy steam cleaner that I was also considering using to get everything out of the tank possible... Just trying to figure out my options instead of buying a new tank.
And as far as the check ball goes I think that may be my issue with why the accelerator pump isnt working. Thank you guys again!!
