what is your opinion for a carb/manifold combo for a 440 60 over with a mild cam the set up i have now seems to be running too rich no matter what i do and lacking power also thanks nate

What are the cam specs and what are you running now for a carb/intake setup?

x2 on everything, I prefer a vac secondary on autos, and mech. sec on sticks

i have a 780 vac sec and i not to sure on the manifold or the cam it was built before i got my hands on it

Edelbrock Performer RPM and Torker II intakes are ~$200 each and a 750-800 carb will run you anywhere from $250 up to over $400 depending on if you want mech or elec choke, Performer or AVS, Blah, Blah, Blah. With gaskets and whatnot, you probbaly looking at ~$600 total.

Those prices look like they are for new merchandise. I have seen/bought intakes for under $200 and carbs can be had cheap. I have picked up a number of them for $50 and under. Most have been ready to run but a few have needed a rebuild kit (about $20). I like to pick up the old Carter AFB comp series carbs, they are the same as the Edelbrock but half the price.

X2 on the carbs. They are all over craiglist, never pay over $100.00 Lotsa people size them wrong, or dont know how to tune them, get frustrated and sell them. Pick you intake for your desired power band. Single plane for the track or high rpm. dual plane for a "stoplight hero", with good around town driveability.

well if i can keep my 780 vac sec would be nice what manifold would give me "stoplight hero", with good around town driveability but the performance to keep up with my buddies in the ricers ??

I like the performer RPM. That's what I am running with my 440. Good all around intake.

x2, the eddy RPM is one of the best all purpose intakes ever made. We all want our cars to be a 7k-plus screamer, but really, watch your tach, where do you spend most of your time? Even if you do occasionally rev it to 6500 plus, how much time do you really spend above the rpm range of your cam and intake? I can say that I am a stoplight hero! I generally dont hit the track, the races are light to light, not 1/4 mile. I have the power down low, which is where I spend most of my time at. I also want to be able to drive it anywhere without overheating.
