Caution in posting Tech answers.

Many times I come on here (I'm here at least 4-5 times a day) and I see people requesting technical information on "how to" for a certain task. I know when ever someone posts an answer they are only trying to help, but many times the incorrect answer will cause much more harm than good. I just had a buddy get bad advise on Pontiac Forums and I had to re-do his ignition system because of bad tech information. (serves him right he should have asked me first, Ha) I don't pretend to know everything, actually compared to some, I know very little, but have 30 years of wrenching and have learned many things the hard way.

I hate to see someone go away with the wrong advise so if you are not positive about the answer, be sure to say that your answer is a guess or something.

I guess I really have no say here other than anyone else that posts here, so take this for what ever it is worth. I am just looking out for the best for everyone

Ok, I am stepping down from my soap box now.

They way I see the advise on forums such as these is that it is just that, 'advise'. While it may help steer the owner in the right direction or help eliminate a cause or possible fix, it is still up to the owner to check and double check any advise they get, regardless of who they get it from! I

I don't know what the hell your talking about Steve. I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING!

And by that I mean i know nothing about nothing. I totally agree with you. I will admit that I don't have all the answers, and have been wrong on more than one acciation. I think that people that ask questions also have to remember that they are asking other people that have the same hobby as them. If they really wanted the right answer, then there are shops out there for them to call or visit.
