challenger build Help.

Sup guys, well i picked up a 71 challenger about 2 years ago and been working on it recently swapped over from a 318 to a 71' 440 from a imperal. now im wanting to build it up some. cam heads etc don't want a race car but want it to be mean also going with a dual 4bbl setup for style points...

the heads it currently has is 3751213 - 1853? they seem to be from a motor home...basically i would like to know how much more HP 906 heads for instance will give me and what you guys think i should do with it.

This is my 1st project and i don't know much about motors... my budget is low but want something nice. any advice and help will be much appreciated

define mean?

Rough idle with at least 1HP per cube?

Fair idle with broad torque curve and good vacuum?

Couple folks on here have some excellent 440s that Im sure they let you in on a build sheet.

If the heads are off, measure how deep the piston is in the bore when its at TDC.
What transmission and what rear gear? Are you going to run ac or power brakes?

the motor is completely together atm solid stock except for the heads which were put on b4 i got the motor...im really not sure how much HP i want i mean to much is never enough. would love to push like 600 in theory but whatever it puts out will be enough for me. idk anything about the valves or w/e and the tranny is just the stock 727 so gear ratio hasn't been messed with. i don't think i want to over-cam it main focus is just a sick sound and alot of HP to back it up but still somewhat drive-able would like to avoid a stall-converter if possible.
idk help me brainstorm and decide what i need cause its over my head.

pretty sure it has drum brakes. and the car/motor has AC

my brothers definition of mean is a 11 to 1 440 earth quake with a rough idle that rattels the windows in the car next to me has insane amounts of low and mid range torque and equally insane amounts of high end horse power in a doge dart

71 is most likely an 8-1 compression motor, unless it was an HP to start with. If it is, crank it up to 10-1, toss on some 440 source heads, a good intake and carbs, look at a roller cam set up and don't be afraid to choose a cam in the 530 lift range. The duration will give you your lope, but also raise the area where your HP will come in. Back that up with a torque converter that will stall to the area your cam makes some good power, and I think you'll be pretty happy with it.
