Cleaning the fuel tank

Im thinking that since my 74 roadrunner has been sitting for about 7 years that i should clean out the tank. Whenever I get low on gas the my engine starts to run crappy. Im not positive, but i think its from all the crap that may be on the bottom of the tank. So how hard is it to clean the tank, and what do i need to do to clean it?? Budget it tight so id like to spend as little as possible. What do you guys think??

I would think I would need to remove it drain it and see what comes out . Then if there is rust in it replace it if just crud I would put more gas in it swish it around and dump till clean hope this helps
