I've found a few of them on the 'tube. Some are pretty stupid. Observe this hick backyard slow movin' prolly hungover "crew"

Why you would not be prepared in advance for this is beyond me, as in, "Bubba, ya got thet thar scrap piece 'o rag 'n thet thar piece 'o 2 x 8 fer' a pleug rady?, hey BUBBA!!!"

The UPS truck is a good one although most of the delivery trucks now days are automatics would not do any good to pop the clutch

No good to throw it in gear...... It will spit the Driveshaft across the shop....

Best two things to do..... Have the air intake off and have a old mud flap mounted to a peace of wood....
Or
Run up with your BFH of Long screw driver and knock the fuel filter off of it and run like hell.

At least some of the old Detroits had a mechanical "choke" plate that you could deploy with a pull cable. Of course if you didn't check it once in awhile, and the cable got corroded up..............

Any UPS trucks I've seen around here are all stick shift. I'd say something like...............

Try about 2nd gear with the brakes on, and if that drags the engine down to a safer RPM, then try and shift into a higher gear. Even burning up a clutch would be preferable to scattering an expensive engine all over 'ell.
