Dot 5?
Dot 5?
Hi all
Doing a brake system on a 59 Chrysler Saratoga right now. New upgraded front discs, proportioning valve, new dual circuit master, and using the old drums in the rear.
I have all of the old brake fluid out of the system, I am 100% sure of that
My question is, I've heard varying answers to using DOT5 brake fluid, as it is silicone. Some people say that it isn't compatible with systems that are designed for DOT3&4, I find that hard to believe
Will I have any issues using DOT 5? I don't want lines to rot out again.
Much appreciated,
Sam

I’ve heard not too attempt to use it on an old system but I’ve also heard that every piece in the hydraulic system must be new, every piece new, not cleaned up used but new before you can use DOT five.
So if you reused any fittings lines or hoes forget about it.

Agreed.... If you have all new Stainless and the appopiest Master Cylinder.... Your good to go..... If your using the older brake stuff.... Use DOT 3-4.....
Just my two cents..... Cheers
