Dumb Tachometer Problem
Title says it, I installed a tach on the column(old school hose clamp) of my column shift 70 coronet, wired it in and was happy with the location, functionality and look of it till I went to pull the car back in the garage, Thats when I realized the whole part of the column moves with the shifter DUHHAny ideas where another location to mount it in a easily seen location without drilling holes in the dash it would be appreciated-Pictures would be a PLUS!~

If you dash has a vent or grating that screwed in place you can modify or fabricate a bracket and use one of the grating screws to secure it under the grating. The "base" on this one is just a piece of foam.

I took my Monster Tach and used one of the screws that screw into the Dash pad underneath where the Gauge Cluster is and mounted the bracket upside down, this keeps the Steering Column clear and you can still see other instruments as well. You may have to add another screw into the bracket to keep it from moving side to side. Then route your wiring as needed. Good luck

Thanks for all the input guys I want it on the column but I dont see it happening-mikerp76 my dash comes farther up the column than yours, Archer yours looks very good but I really want to keep it off the top of the dash, Sean McAnally yours might be the ticket but my dash is very thin were yours is mounted I'll look at it more but THANKS so much for everyones help and when I get it figured out I'll post a picture. Now I have a problem with a 7th cylinder misfire gonna try to figure that out b4 going any farther with the tach.

Finally got everything else just about figured out(stupid kickdown linkage) and still dont have a good location for the tach, I know this thread is old but figured I'd see if anyone else had any ideas, I might end up just mounting it under the dash but it looses alot of its purpose if I have to look down to see it

I understand your problem.. I to have had that issue with other vehicles I have owned.( I am one of those that cringe @ drilling holes where they dont belong etc). BUT here is how i have dealt with it in the past, isnt perfect by any means but it works... Mount it back on the column as you did the first time BUT with the shifter in the 2nd gear position, turned how ever you want it mounted. (level, twisted so red line rpm is pointing straight up etc your choice) Then when cruising the tach is within tolerable position in drive, and not very far off in 1st for the hot-rodder in you... In park its kind of a moot point unless its in a perfectionist concourse show, then it wouldnt be correct anyways... Just a way I have done it and an idea tossed in the ring...
