Scotty, Personally I think it's a good idea. The only con I can think of is the cost.

If it blows up on the dyno then it gives you that excuse to drop a 440 in there.

run it! run whatcha brung!! if you have some mileage on the motor you should be fine.. if its a fresh motor then you should be a little leery. in your other post you said there was 5k on it so thats plenty of mileage to seat the rings and break the cam in. hell racers build a fresh motor, bring it up to temp, seat the rings and break the cam in, in 20 minutes their ready to do a dyno pull.

As long as the motor is built right, then you have nothing to worry about. I say go for it as it will help you greatly dial in the motor.

i like the 440 idea ha ha but then i would need to put a 8 3/4 rear end in it,,hell i want to do that anyways,,so many things to do where to start,,ive pieced together a near mint black interior this summer but still cant find a headliner,,still a head turner as it is though i love it,,i got a black duster that keeps cruising by my place on weekends i think he may want to race, lol, lol but the *** end is so far in the air when he turns the corner the whole car swayes

I dyno'ed my car at school, what an absolute waste of time in all honesty. it was fun, and it was free. So i can't exactly complain. I made 3 pulls, and made right at 400 whp and 400 lbs/tq.

My car didn't pull over 5,000 RPM (I take it up to 5900). Fell flat on it's face. Why? I don't know...

That night I blew the head gasket. It was a DynoJet, and it wasn't loaded and there were not any numbers calculated in.

Go to a Mustang dyno and have alot of air flow in if you're doing it. Cheap dyno's are a waste of time.

Back on topic: I like the dyno if all else is squared away. I try and steer people away from a dyno until they have a wide band and / or data logger in place. If the shop has a o2 logger then see if you can buy an hour of time vs. three pulls. You can make your timing changes / jet changes while the dyno operator does other work.
