I know this from experience. It killed the carb in my Aspen. It made my Dakota stall. It plugged up the float needle valve on my Gran Fury. If you let the cat sit and don't start it very often the gas evaporates and leaves behind a gummy mess. I know run Lucas Oil's product that protects against this.

Thus far I have seen no bad effects in my car or truck engines... But my small engines are a different story... I was constantly taking either the lawn mower, weedeater, edger or something to the repair shop... It was the gas they kept telling me.... We looked and found a marinia that sold ethanol free gas and that ended the problems.... Now several gas stations have the ethanol free but it will cost app .40 to .50 per gallon more... I pay it... Still cheaper than all the repairs... I also have seen that Stabil has a new ethanol blend... But I haven't tried that ....

boy you got that right about the small engines the fuel lines just melt away we change them all the time got a roll of supposedly alcohol resistant fuel line but it fails..
in the car, the carb boil overs are the only issue i got once the heat soak and the fuel boiling also when i park from a long drive on a typical Florida hot day the fuel tank boils away you can hear it rolling along any ideas on this? i'm thinking a small leak in the tank maybe the cap or the vent lines at the top?

If you actually drive your vehicle on a daily basis, you won't really have an issue with the available 10% ethanol fuel.

However, if you let your vehicles sit for weeks at a time, you'll need to add a stabilizer too keep it from drawing in moisture and eventually drying out and plugging up your fuel system

Here's what the carb on my 440 Drag Boat looked like after sitting for a few months without a stabilizer additive

I pretty much had to chisel out all the sediment with a scraper

Any engine I have that I know will sit for more than a few weeks without use, I run the fuel down as low as I can and run some Stabil through it, so the next time I use it, I have to fill up with fresh gas

My 440/493 has a detonation issue that I am dealing with. I know a few certain ways to fix it, one being the tactic of mixing some race gas in with the 91 octane pump gas.
For about 3 minutes, I considered a conversion to E-85.
NO thanks...
The guys who "like" it say it is cheaper than race gas. Cheaper? Yeah, for NOW. Once the feds decide to remove their incentives, it goes back up by .50 cents a gallon. Want more bad news? It has a high octane, sure, but to use it, you need to use MORE of it. You need approximately 35-40% more E-85 to make the same energy as gasoline. This means that instead of getting 12 mpg, I'd get about 8. Yes, 8 miles to a gallon on a type of fuel that isn't always at every station.
No, Thanks.

got to be diffrent

I run 91 octane without ethanol and believe it or not I run 25% to 50% North Dakota crude oil. car runs great better performance, no carb problems or sparkplug problems. Yea most people might think I'm crazy and will burn up my 340, it does burn a little hotter but it has to be better than the crap at the pump. and no not all crude oil is thick and black. it comes in all sorts of flavors and colors.

do you really know what is in the crude oil you are running? i think the term crude oil is a very general term. and could mean all most any thing. it can have as much as 6% sulfur, and it has some hydrogen but the hydrocarbon chains are single chain meaning they will brake down easy. doing this for a short time is not much info. if you have done it for a long time with good results thats an other thing. EDIT: dont for get the Marvel Mystery oil. and check out the ampco oiler. http://www.ampcolubes.com/

I work in the oil field I grade crude oil for Shell oil co. the crude oil I run in my car is very thin like thinner or like drip gas. the oil content is around 5% the term for the crude I use is called natural gasoline. It looks like and smells like gas use to look and smell like when I was a kid in the 60's. My car runs great although I don't run it every tank full and I mix it with gas. But my old 2 cycle dirt bike likes it straight. So if I burn up my dirt bike well it carried my old butt for all theses years I'll burry it with honors.

Fred..... Is that the oil you can put in a small cup and light it on fire and it burns kind of fast? I mean much faster than Kerosene oil?

I'm not to good with computer stuff so please bear with me I'm looking up the marvel mystery oil web site thanks I like new stuff . and yes I use crude oil to light my burn piles (wood and paper) depending on the crude oil yea some burns like diesel fuel and some burns before you can get the match close to it. I'm a nobody I just try to do things different, I've ran on used engine oil in my old diesel cars (in the fuel tank) didn't smoke bad and that was straight no diesel fuel so call me stupid it was fun. Bob I'd love to send you a sample of crude oil let me know how to send it to you
