When I talked to my Fiance's dad about it, he said when they closed down they just kept the gates unlocked for people to do whatever with what they could find, Nobody really knew about the car lot, it's in a pretty distant place from the city with only an elderly trailer park near it. The owner couldn't move any of the cars to the lot he bought a few miles away, and there are maybe 10-15 cars there, nothing that special so he wouldn't have bothered. The only reason the Charger went untouched for so long was because it was hidden, it was underneath the branches, vines, bushes surrounding the wall of the building and fence before we came across and cut it all down. So all in all, it's a free for all.

No, you're not alone, someone owns the property and vehicles which occupy it, and being there constitutes trespassing,IMO.

I would not take parts from a car I did not own. I can see your side too RR, but I would not do it. I would check with the police or property owner and ask how you could take ownership and tell them how log it has been abandoned. That way you a$$ is covered if anything ever comes of it. This thread could even be used as evidence against you.

nobody would press charges if the property is being cleared... the land is the only thing there worth any money... it happens all the time around here. Out with the old. I see the point about it no being your property though i just think in this case its fine.

Well pretty much when the owner leaves the gate open and let's people do whatever they want with what they can find, then I doubt he cares.

I agree with RR take what you can get. FYI I dont know about road island but here in michigan you can put in for a lost title the state will re-issue a title to you if the last registered owner says its okay or if they dont respond back to the state within a certain amount of time the car will become yours automatically. id have several cars if i could get them out of the woods here.

Hmm I wonder if I could do that. I believe the title is gone, the owner might be deceased, he had a firearms license in there from 1957, assuming he was 30 when he got it he would have been born in 1927-2010, 83 years old.

According to my wife the retired sherriff. He would be in the Volusia Co jail right about now and all the replys on this thread are evidence.. Don't know the laws up there but in Florida you are a thief..... By the letter of the law....

Sure, someone would have to report it and get the law involved. I am not going to do that. The point is that it is not right ethically or legally. Take the steps to make it your car, then do what you want.

the gates are open as stated and if his dad is correct he,s fine.

i do agree, its not right to just go and start stripping it, i would track down the owner first and foremost and see if its cool to get parts off of it,

but personally id make room for the whole car,

It all depends on the people around the area seeing it happen and if any locals pass by that think something of it.

The moment some one see's you getting something for nothing there will be trouble. That's just the way life is.

Make the car legally yours and you can make money off the parts without ever having to worry about looking over your shoulder.

What might be okay with the owner now, may not be okay once he realizes you are making good money from the parts.

And I repeat......
The moment some one see's you getting something for nothing there will be trouble. That's just the way life is.

Joe.

People from the park have seen me going in there days in a row, nobody says anything, Been there hours straight nobody comes to complain. People in the house almost next door party all the time and hear me.

So far what I think I want to do is actually get the WHOLE car, make the title mine, tow it to my house and sell it. A 74 Charger SE, full car with no damage at all? The worth could be insane profit.

Well I called the company that used to own the lot. This is what the situation was - Amtrak paid them heftly for the land, but they still need to move all the cars, they were ALL impounded, she pulled the list and I asked about the Charger, it's not on the list so if the title is lost I can put in the lost title claim, and she'll get back to me on if I can take ownership completely.

Anyone know the worth of this car if I'm able to get the whole thing? After all the interior is replaced (Put back in).

The vinyl top it ripped, floors are solid, no rust ANYWHERE on the car, except small surface rust on the trunk, comes with old Cragar SS wheels, with the original four wheels and tires from the factory. Has the original 318 which doesn't run I wouldn't think it would.

No body work needed at all, all the glass is good, nothing is too severely damaged except for the 2 front seats with 1 rip each, No fender tag though, has the VIN, door label, trunk label with jack

Hmm, think it would be worth more to part it out? Or sell it whole?

Good job RR! Hey, I want you to have the whole car or parts or how ever you want it to be. I will be happy for you if you can make a few grand off of your find. I would just like it to be above board so you will no have to look over you shoulder as someone else said. If you get it legally, there will be no worries ******* you.

Best of luck!
