Help us with spam/site issues

As some, maybe even many, of you have seen, we do get the occasional spam. As a Mod, I do not tollerate it at all. Please help us out by reporting them or send me a PM with a link to the thread that they are in. It does not matter if you are a new member or one that has been here for years.

I can not speak for the other Mods, but I do ban anyone that posts up spam. So please help us out with keep this forum clean.

You guys do a great job here keeping it off. We get hit far harder! I delete at least 200 spam posts per day and my other mods are cleaning as well.

Keep up the good work.

I have noticed though that when we get one person in here that is posting some spam, that there are 2 or 3 more that follow.

I'll be posting a new thread shortly about an idea that I talked to the other mods about and want to get everyone opinion on. Look for it (there is a poll too) in this section.

We can. I'll talk to 1BM about it and see what he can do. He is the only one here that can actually change things on the site.

As an administrator at another Mopar site, I know all too well about spammers. We usually get an average of 5 a day that sign up. Some post right away and some wait a bit before posting something but I go and check out the new registration list every morning. Some are easy to detect and some I have to do a search but the majority are pretty easy to see because of their username. What the hay is this? 'wjlxgqyhcq' and yeah, it checked out as a spammer lol. Most sign up in the middle of the night because most of them are from the other side of the world....we also have a spam decimator button that shows up on all newbie's posts so any moderator can at least get rid of a spammer's posting and then an admin can go in and clear out any profile pics, sigs etc.....

Double that, you guys do so well I didn't know it was a problem.
I have heard of scammers though,
and that is why I say never post your
e-mail address in the forum.

Spammers....

New version of Vbulletin has better spam filters...although being a moderator on two other sites...some still get through...one site uses a notification button under the post that alerts us to a spammer...the other site uses a quick moderation at the top of the forum...it alerts me on a new users fifth post and I have all the options up to an including banning them as a spammer...opcorn:

The easiest way to help is to report spam. If you see a bunch of internet urls and such report it to us. Hit that little red triangle with the ! mark and it shall be reported to all the moderators and administrators. It's located bottom left of the post.

I have my own Vbulletin web site.

Have had it for 6 years or so now.

The version you are running here is an old one, But a good one.

If you go to VB.com, There is add ons there that will keep spammers out.

I have it on my site, And spammers never get the chance to register, Let alone post anything lol.

It really is a nice add on to have.

By the way, I am running the new 4.0 version on my site.

If you are having issues with logging in, posting, loading pictures, etc. or if you are seeing an ad that you normally don't see here (like a pop up) please take a screen shot of it and send it my way. I will do my best to explain and fix the issue.

As it appears that most of the site moderation has gone MIA, I am looking for a couple of long time members to step up and lend a hand. If you are interested, shoot me a PM or reply/apply here.
Thanks,
Don

So my question is that if I get an email from Jegs or Summit about a discount code am I not allowed to post it?

I would think a discount code is appreciated but post that you have one to give out. That way there isn't five people trying to use the same code. Give out in a PM , this is the way I've seen it done on other forums. Then post that it's gone after you give it out.

if the code is a one time use, do not post it, take requests via PM as Iowan suggested, that way it goes to the first person that requests it. if it is a time limited open use code like the Rock Auto codes which have no limit on use other than the expiration date then feel free to post them in the general forum.
