Hemi's and Poly Head Engines
Hemi's and Poly Head Engines
Been reading a 1957 Hot Rod Annual. Here are some tidbits.
They have articles for each make engine. '56 ones.
Hemi engines are Chrysler, Desoto and Dodge. Poly engine is Plymouth.
Poly is explained as a Ricardo head.Benefits of having the valves not in a row. Like 348 Chevy.
You can see where Direct Connection came from.
Articles for each make engine list 'Factory Power Packs'.
For the Chrysler it is 300B.For Desoto it is Adventurer. For Dodge it is D500 and for Plymouth the Fury.
Second better version usually has dual quad manifold.
In the 80's Direct Connection did not say what parts the engine package came from. They just said here is the part.Buy it.
Pretty interesting stuff.

'hey cool!'
Yep.Here's a picture showing what they meant.
They were jumped on immediately because of the heads and the strong bottom ends.
Eat your wheaties if you get one because the parts are not going to be Summit Racing SBC price.

Oops!
CT Precision. bought the overhead valve conversion parts and plans from Ardun.
The article says the cubic inches of Chrysler, Desoto,Dodge and Plymouth engines. They were all different.
That is what steered us away from early hemi's in the 80's. Also they were looked down upon as old fashioned.
How to Hot Rod the Dodge Engine is an awesome booklet on wedges.
It's 1964 so it covers the Max Wedge engines big time.Might cover the new Hemi but can't tell from cover.
Obviously if anyone runs across an old Hemi grab it. Need to put it in a nostalgia drag car though to get the full experience.
