I think I'm screwed.
Court Friday, Zoning hasn't gotten back in touch about the car port.
Called numerous times. And now my parental might not pay to reg/insure it.
So...
My violations were:
Junk on property
Unregistered/Uninsured vehicle
Inoperable vehicle.
The 'Cuda is gone, which was the only inoperable vehicle there, and the yard is literally spotless, now it's just that one violation.
Has anyone had to or know anyone who has fought city violations and won? I need some supportive suggestions now and I need to try and fight this.
My views:
We have a 4 car driveway
The vehicle is NOT an eyesore to anyone, it's covered and together
The yard is all clean and has no junk whatsoever on it
The car does indeed run and drive
My ideas:
Bring upon a judge that I can build a stockade fence to shadow the car from passerby's and neighbors/ Put up a car port with four walls.
That's all I have for ideas.

You might want to talk to a lawyer. A good one might have some advice on what to do. I would try to fight it all I could and not give the ****** the satisfaction of making you give up your classic American car, because they secretly want you to have nothing but hybrids. Fight it till the bitter end, wear them down to their bones, until they realize that your not going to put up with their Communists demands! Ok that might have gotten a little too passionate. But point still remains, do anything and everything you can, and don't give up.

Wish it was that easy, but my parental already explained that I have no money to register it, no more for anything to it.
I can show them it does run and drive but that proves nothing.
Yeah.. fight it.. but how?
Here is my story for the Judge:
"I recently starting getting the settlement money from my accident, I get to use MY money how I want to and now it is coming back on me? The car isn't a bother or eyesore to anyone, I understand the other car was and I took care of it, but I have no place for this one, This is the only thing I truly own and I'd like to keep it, could we possibly work with a structure around it or something else?"

if you don't mind me asking how much is the reg going to cost. You could always put it on a credit card and carry the balance for a short while. I know it only costs me 74 bucks a year to register my dart, but that's with no penalty's. If the vehicle is registered I don't think any of this would be a problem.

It's going to cost quite a bit to register it. Here in RI the fee is-
FeexWeightx2+$1.50 which would come out to $120-170ish
Then I have the sales tax which is about another $200 or 250
But then again I could pull a fast one on that...(Not mentioned)

Steve -
Find out exactly what the zoning regs are and (hopefully) what they mean.
Go to court and explain what you're doing (as politely/respectfully as possible - and I think you have that pretty well figured out) and don't worry about asking the judge about your options. Hope he's in a good mood.
Look, you have nothing to loose and it "might" work out. Ya never know.
Give it your best shot,
Archer

thinkin with me dipstick
how far away from the college are you - a buddy of mine got out of some legal nonsense by asking the advice from a law professor. as lame as it may sound, a shave, haircut and nice clothes as well as "yes sirs and no sirs" won't hurt you - you need to present it as this is your a kid with his first project - usually a guy will understand that...

Don't go into court just taking what you have been told as gospel. Find the zoning laws and read them. Present yourself respectfully and knowledgeable about this issue at hand. Be an adult about it. Long drawn out stories about "he said" or "their doing that" will get you nowhere. If it looks as though the ruling will go against you, ask for an extension, 30 - 60 days for example.
Good Luck,
Joe.

can you get a scrap title on it? without knowing the actual legal issues with the car, it's hard to say which direction to go...do you know the previous owner? do you have any papers? have you called DMV with the vin and licence to find out anything?
i have a lot of tattoos & get a lot of snap judgments, i can definitely second the respectability factor...be clean, be polite, defer to The Man, and for pete's sake, be humble! often the worst bureaucrats will soften up a bit if you treat them like helping you was their idea.

Well, I call her my parental for a few reasons.
She threw me out
She left me to rot in group homes/state care
She sent me to state care by throwing me out
______
This is rough, I might be able to get an extension.. but then again you never know, A kid with an arm full of tattoos, piercings, a newly pierced lip and septum isn't going to go over well. Kind of stupid to get them pierced the other day but I just found out about court the same day I got it.

Will you even get through the metal detectors at the court house?
I'm kidding....kinda. but really you should dress nice, show up on time, and be respectful through the whole thing.

Actually my career path that is going to turn out soon is both:
Tattoo artist, getting my apprenticeship soon.
Mechanic, going to MTTI for Automotive and Autobody, getting me ASE cert and then going with a good chance getting a full time job at Mike's garage, he owns the piercing parlor I go to.
