Just Got My Engine Bored
Got it 0.030 over, the machinist asked me what I got the engine out of, I told him a 76 Dodge Tioga RV and that I wanted to drop it into an old muscle car.
That's when he asked me what kind of cam I want and I had no idea, haha.
I just told him that I wanna be able to drive it around town and take it to the strip.
I asked my brother what kind of cam I should get and all he said was "depends on what you wanna do to your car". lol, well I wanna make it fast, powerful, and have an awesome sounding idle(btw my bro's being kind of a "D" about it).
So you guys have any advice? Any kind is greatly appreciated!

Ok I may be a dick too.
What do you want to do with it? A drag race cam is not a street cam, a lumpy idle cam is not going to be so friendly at red lights, and with power brakes etc..
A high horsepower cam comes on stronger at higher rpm's but if you want to drive this on the street you want a cam that has power at lower rpm's.
All cams have a "range" where they like to perform best. Just like carburetors, bigger is NOT better.
Surprisingly a motorhome cam may be just what you want. They make lots of low end torque, pull strong through the lower rpmsand give you terrific red light to red light performance.
A lumpy idle cam sounds cool at the local cruise night, but there are smooth idle Hemis that will eat them up. Don't forget to get that cam to work you are going to need a loose converter, and a low rear gear out back. Now all of a sudden your cool sounding car has to cruise the highway at a max speed of 50 - 55 MPH because the engine is revving too high.
Be careful what you ask for you just might get it.

If you are dead-set on changing the cam, go to comcams.com and play with their camquest program. Its free and you plug in your engine and car details and it gives cam suggestions and graphs of the powerbands. Now be HONEST with it! Enter what you have, or will have and not what you want. I overcammed a manual car once, and it was a miserable POS to drive around town [where I spent 95% of my time]. But it did feel like I hit the afterburner once it hit 4000rpm! Still, a crappy experience since around town, it never saw 4grand. I learned my lesson. A GOOD running car is the goal. Dial in the power band for where you will spend the most time.

270 duration (advertised dur.) +/- 5 degrees
.470 lift (+/- .005)
110 to 114 Center line angle.
Should work good on the street with factory high stall converter.

Thanks a lot guys, and no C4C, that wasn't "D" like at all, your advice was great! Better to be "safe than sorry" so to speak.
I'll check out comcams.com Scotts, thanks a lot!
You guys rock! Thanks!
