Mopar question

I have a 78 440 rv motor, that is 8 5 to 1. What would I have to mill my heads to, To get close to 10 to 1 compression?

That is too much math for me to do but I'm sure that a local engine builder/engine shop could tell you.

Bad move. If you mill the heads enough to jack the compression that much, odds are you'll have to mill the intake as well and that "might" lead to other fit problems. I'm sure it's been done, but not the route I'd take.

If you really want to increase the compression that much, look into a new crank, rods and/or pistons.

switch heads, that would probly be the cheapest route find a set of 915 closed chamber heads and that should get you closer to what you want,

A good quality machine shop can mill the heads and intake to match and will not cause issues. I did it with a 383 BB I had. Everything fit much better after the work.

i would never recommend milling a head to get another 1.5 compression
that could structurally weaken the head
i like 66's idea
915 should help

Anything can be made to work. The amount of work ($$$) and additional parts work, like the pushrods Scott mentioned and possibly valve clearance issues (sorry don't know all the specs) just don't make it sound like the best idea, even if do-able. Now, if your uncle owned the machine shop

If minpins6780 went with the 915 heads, would the puch rods still need to be replaced or are those demenitions still the same and only the combustion chamber size different?

as a rule of thumb, if you pull apart a motor that you have no history on, you should double check the pushrod length and the tension that they are putting on the lifters

if you mill a head, you need to get new pushrods
if you just get a new head, if the height and everything is the same, you might be able to keep your old pushrods, but i am not entirely sure

to be safe, i would just measure
