MSD Ignition Controle
MSD Ignition Controle
Does the MSD Ignition Control provide more HP as well or what does it do for the car and if or when I buy one how will it help my engine?
This is the first car I put together on my own with my boys and we are learning as we go.

the MSD does not make power directly. to have benefit from it you will need to experiment with the spark plugs. if you are running a mopar you are best off with the std chrysler electronic ignition. now if it is a race car going faster than 14-13 sec then maybe a MSD is what you need. if you do run the std elec igntion DO carry 2 spair ballast resister in the glove box. and in middle of winter when you swap one out you dont have to bolt it to the fire wall. you can just let it hang.
MSD Stands for (Multiple Spark Distribution).... Instead of a spark plug only sparking one time per cycle, it can spark multiple times in the one cylinder cycle...
Helps light all the fuel... Long story short....
So.. To answer the question... Yes.. in most applications..

Thanks for the info...I am just taking some advice I was told earlier and to pay attention to the details, and I have about 4-5 K saved up to put in the car this winter and I am trying to use them wisely.....I want to put the $ where it counts...I would love to have a 12.5 +- car by next summer....Now know that I do not know anything or much I do not know where to put the $ into as far as the engine....
Hey
NOW I DO NOT have a manual It has a 727 transmission in it, I have a guy in town that has 6-7 A833 and said he might sell me one.
What can you tell me about this CAM?
That's a pretty hairy cam for a mostly stock 440, but with that 3.91:1 rear and a loose converter it might be okay. Good heads and intake manifold will help, too. All this and some 275/60/15 drag radials (I like Nitto555 Extreme Drag) and you're deep in the 12s. Traction bars are a good idea, and keep the car's weight below 3800. Sounds like you're almost there. Have you run it down the strip as-is?
Car Work
I do have a Torker II on it and traction bars,I am thinking as well as the aluminum heads, I have not run it on the strip..When I bought the car the girl said and had pictures of her dad running 13.3+ on it then we tore down the engine and rebuilt it, We had the heads that are on their port and polished...
Right now its in the paint shop getting some work done and a paint job.

If you get aluminum heads ? Probably get the small chamber one's To get more compression that that cam needs.
without looking it up,, stock is probably .450 so yes it is larger ...

I agree, but I'd like to see what the car will do as-is on some sticky tires. He may well be in the mid 12s already.
MSD distributors and control boxes are second to none. The distributor comes with tables and extra springs to allow setting your own advance
curve and we all know what that does when it comes to controlling
the burn on fuel and horsepower. Secondly the longer spark duration
means a complete burn in a loaded cylinder and plug heat range is not so
critical. Furthermore the plug gaping starts at .053 unlike stock .035.
That's a seriously hot spark when used with a 65,000 volt coil and,
best of all NO BALLAST RESISTOR anymore. The reason these people
are so successfull is because their focus is detonating 100% of the fuel
charge in the cylinders, and boy do they do it. Complete burn = Max
horsepower = happy owner.
