My baby is finally on the road!!!

So after more than 4 years and a lot of mistakes and money, my 67 GTX clone lives again! I got most of the bugs worked out, and this last Sunday, I drove my car the 70 miles to where I live......no issues. There are still a few things to work out, but I know for sure the first thing I have to do is get the 3:91 gears out and some 3:55 gears in. At 70 on the freeway, it sure felt like I needed a fifth gear. I still need to get the small block radiator out and get a 26in radiator and shroud in. The timing is not quite right, but I'll get that tuned along the way.

The main things is that it is back on the road! Whoooooo hooooooo! The sombyotch looks pretty good too! Did I mention that this was my first Mopar???

I would like to thank all the folks on this foum that have helped me out over the past 9 months that I have been a member. Your knowledge and support have really helped me to get to this day. Now all I need is some sunny days and some time off work!!!

Thanks guys! It is nice to finally drive the car. I did not do everything on this car myself, but I did a lot of it, so that is very gratifying as opposed to sending the car off to some shop and just writing a big check. The car is not perfect, but it is a really good driver quality car.

I plan to get the 3:55 diff in the next week or so, then get it installed shortly after that. I have found a 26" radiator and shroud, so that will be on the agenda soon as well (don't want overheating problems this summer!).

I'll keep you all updated on the progress. Thanks again for your knowledge and support!

I ordered the new 3:55 sure grip today....hope to have it in a week, then maybe another week to find a day to do the change. I also included the green bearing conversion kit.

I put my 741 case 3:91 sure grip (still in the car) on Craigslist and in less than an hour, I got a call from a guy who wanted it for his 72 Dart, so I pulled that part of my ad and told him I would keep in touch. I told him I would send him pics, and let him know I would have it looked at by a mechanic before I would sell it to him. I still have a 742 case with 2:93 open gears in it for sale.

Thats a sweet ride man, congrats on getting it on the road! Not too many things that can make a guy feel better than takin his car out for a sunday cruise! Enjoy the **** out of it, don't lock her up in the garage!

Never did get why guys spend a fortune on a car and then lock them in the garage and let them catch dust and rust for 20 years... I don't care if I paid a million for a car I would drive it and enjoy it like no other.

Thanks DK and 79. This will not be a garage queen, I promise you that! I will be driving it every chance I get until I cannot afford the gas. , and yes, I do have cracks in the corners of my mouth! DK, I checked out your engine pics on your album.....it's looking very good. I hope the next month and a half goes by quickly for you. I am impressed at how much you are doing yourself. You also enjoy Mopar, brother!!!

yeah i had allot of help from friends & my old works workshop & trade prices from them with a few things . so that made it much easier & cheaper although I've hit hurdles the whole way , wasted over $ 2000 on parts i can't or won't be using . this will owe me over $10 000 without including shipping costs to Australia . including all the oil , engine fan , trans fluids fan belts , paint's , sealants , marker pens , ect ect .
then add $1000 - $1500 in 727 parts with freight
bonnet scoop
new tires
the list goes on I'll be at $15 000 in no time .
wow i could probably buy a whole new valiant that dose 12's - 11's for that money .
oh well such is life ....

I would say this....yes, it is a lot of money, but you are spending it on what you love, and it is a legal and wholesome sport. It could be worse. There are a lot of people out there who steal that much money every week to pay for something they inject, snort or swallow. Plus along the way, you are learning a lot which you will use to help your friends or could even lead to a job. I spent way too much on my project.....I don't even want to add it up. But I also learned a lot. I can take pride in the fact that I know most of my car inside and out. I am glad I completed something and did not just let the project die (which I felt like many times). If I lived near you, I would sure come by and help out till she was done, then come pit for you on the weekends!
