Need help re 440 Ditributor
Hi there. Just wondering if anyone can help out there. I have a 70 Coronet RT with its orig 440. It was missing its original carb and has an electronic ign. I found an original Carter AVS L9-4740S carb which I have yet to put on, and got a distributor # 3438222 from Tony Mopar.
First thing I noticed on the distributor was the plastic box on the side of the vacume advance with two spade connections. I looked in my worshop manual and studied one of the wiring diagrams. It showed a wire leading from the distributor solenoid to a carburetor solenoid. Can anyone throw some light on what I am missing here?. On the 440 engines did the Carter AVS have a solenoid hanging off the carb somewhere? I presume the plastic box on the side of the vacume advance is the "distributor solenoid" , would this be correct?.

solenoid
I may be able to answer that.. I have a fresh rebuilt carter 4968S I bought which came stock on a 440 in 71.. It has a beautiful bracket and solenoid for AC which is designed to ensure that you do not lose any power when the AC is on and the car is idling. The solenoid is kind of cool. unfortunately, I am not going to use this carb because It is too much for my 318.. oh well.
