New to cars

ok i know pretty much nothing about cars can someone help me out with the basics on what makes a cars performance good and all the basics you need to know

It all depends on what kind of performance you are looking for. For me, it is straight line acceleration as in drag racing. Other people are after road racing/auto cross performance which is more oriented towards better handling in corners etc. Either one requires a powerful engine, but from there it is all different. For drag racing, you want wide slick tires for traction and an an engine set up for brute power to run a 1/4 mile in the least amount of time. For the other kinds of racing, you also want a powerful engine, but perhaps one that can take more RPM, and a different suspention that is more suitable for curves and cornering.

If you are really new, I would suggest going to youtube.com and searching for drag racing, indy racing, autocross, etc so you can see how they are different.

in what sense are you referring to?
racing, gas mileage?
