Overheat problem

440, bored over .30: have installed new thermostat 180,...has 22" original rad, no shroud. Fresh engine. Overheats in about 20-30 min upon shutdown. Going to change out Rad to 26" alum/4row..with shroud...
Will I have a straight r&r on the Rad .? What other issues will I run into....
Do I need to go to flex hoses vs standard rad hoses?

You may need the hose app from a air cond car

The shroud and aluminum radiator will help a great deal. What size is the opening in your core support? Putting a 26 inch radiator in a 22 inch opening will not improve things much. May have to modify or change the support.

Adding that fan shroud should help a lot!

Ok.....friend had. 4row Rad ( new ) laying around so he let me try it to try and get this OverHeat/flow narrowed down.. R&R Rad, new thermostat...180*, adjusted timing to 10btdc, adjusted mix, ( too rich )... Idled great for 45 min in garage with outside temp at close to 96* +
Drove around town for additional 30-45 min...got 3 driveways away from home, and overheated...
How do I know if water pump is bad....could it be intermittent,,,? Is there a test to verify good/no good status...before pulling to find out it's good ?....

thanks guys.... troubleshooting in work.. changed hoses, thermostat, put in alum 4 row ( 22" ) new adjusted timing, adj carb mix for this altitude, Do not have shroud yet....
ran at idle in garage for approx 45 min with no over heat. drove in town 40 min, got back to apron of driveway and sat for 1 min.....then steamed....then quickly put in garage...shut off, and it spewed..

going to flush and then put on new water pump to rule that out....Any thoughts or suggestions ???

I would pull the rad cap, start the car and let it warm up to the point the thermostat opens, then check for water movement and bubbles or foam in the coolant. No or little movement, bad pump, I have seen the impeller come off a pump, bubbles or foam head gasket.

If this seems ok pull the thermostat and try it without.

Also make sure you have a good radiator cap..... Oh and Again Fan Shroud... Just my 2 cents...
You did not change any of the pulleys by chance? Did you?

Maybe one like this....
