PDF file
In regards to what? I have downloaded scads of them, shop and service manuals, I've even MADE a few. I don't really "like" them either but what is the alternative. Have you ever tried to make sense of the Megasquirt "help" pages? They are all in HTML with scads and scads of inter linked.............linked. There is no possible way to download and make sense of them, to organize them, print them or do anything meaningful with them
One thing you need to realize is, ............there are pdfs and there.......are........pdfs
Some are made "well" and some are not. The Holley tech files, for example, do not open "well" in my usual reader, so I have to use an alternative reader. That is, the fonts don't show up very well for some reason. You do not HAVE to use Adobe "reader." There are many pdf readers, and some open different ways, IE a separate software, and some imbedded in your browzer, and so on.
Another bitch about the Holley tech files is that you have to rename each one so they make sense, as the file names are meaningless. This creates it's own problem, because if you "find one" you are then never sure if you've actually already saved it sometimes!!!! Hell I must have 20 of the damn things between the Commander 950, the Pro-Jection 2D, and the Holley HP injection systems I've played with.
But what's the alternative? Not having any? No thank YOU!!!

iam not a computer expert but there are lots of other files. i find that linux has a very good file system. the ones my Commodore 128 had did just fine.. i all so had one Commodore system that i could have the whole system off, turn on the power strip and in less that 20 seconds have the printer printing a text file.. how many windows systems can do that?

but at the time Commodore was on top. the C=64 sold more machines than ANY computer, EVER. the others was not EVEN close. C=64 sold over 22 million. not even apple sold NEAR as many. OH wait apple bought the CPU that they used from Commodore. ever hear of the 6502 cpu? is that enough or should i keep going? so its the thing to do to toss computers when they get old. but its the thing TO DO keeping old cars going when they are out dated. my 128 will still do the very same things it did back then.

Well the thing is, pdf is "fairly universal." What do you suggest we USE? Microshaft has bent customers over for years with Word and other documents, requiring updates to software, and occasionally coming up with new software that leaves old documents unable to be opened.
There used to be several old office programs which generated "less than universal" files, so that if you were some big corporate entity and you wanted to send a file to someone else, "they" might not have the proper software to open the damn thing (PC Write, Wordstar, Wordperfect)
By the way, I use Linux (Mint), mostly, for my computing. I only use Winhozed for when I 'must' kicking and screaming, and for such things that I cannot figure out how to do so in Linux.
Hell I forget, from time to time, that "the rest of the world" is troubled by crap like viruses!!!!
All I can say is, thank Gauewd we are not stuck in the age of the Commodore!!!!
So far as Linux, "they" "the developers" are their own worst enemy. I believe that there are too many cooks in the pot, literally, and there has gotten to be too many "uncertified" (for lack of better description) directions of travel. I was, for example, perfectly happy with Ubuntu until "someone" decided to force "Unity" (the last thing the damn thing was is "unified") on us.
Just about the same thing happened with "Open Office" and "Libre." I'm sure this was an "ego standoff" in large part. Too bad some of these folks can't give in for the good of development
Mac is one thing I will probably never own. As much as I disliked the dominant attitude of Microshit, and Bill (the arrogant) Balmer, I absolutely detested Steve Jobs.

That, in a roundabout way, is what I'm trying to say, LOL. pdf may be a PITA at times (especially larger files) but it is one of the FEW files that is fairly universal, IE can be opened on any system. And they are not all that "version" sensitive, either.
Here, for example, is one I made for donation on an obsolete antenna I own. This is an old Wilson "System One" antenna that I acquired, photographed the tattered old paper manual, and donated to this site. This was created somewhere around 2003
