Hi, I have a 1987 B350 with the 5.2 2barrel and a 3 speed transmission. Its was originally a Horizon, the camper van with the high top. It has since been gutted. I've put 3k miles on it and love it. My dilemma is...buy a newer van and convert it to a camper, or keep this one and worse case scenario replace the engine/tranny of they go.
My question is, say it comes time to replace engine or tranny. Would I be able to put a newer Dodge 5.2 in? One with fuel injection? If the tranny goes, could I replace it with something that has overdrive?
my thoughts are that this is the perfect van for converting back to a camper. I'd rather put 3k-5k in this then buy a newer van. I'm just curious about what happens if I do run into engine/tranny problems...what my options are. I'll tell you, the 3 speed auto with no overdrive sucks!

 

yeah, common swap! you just need the computer and wiring harness and etc... possibly fuel pump and the like to keep up with higher pressure.
