Hey guys just a real quick question, I have been helping a buddy get his car ready for paint and we are finishing up the body work, just wondering what is the best body filler for high impact areas ie door jambs around the trunk etc...? Fiberglass, bondo, Z grip, metal fill etc?

 

any that you mentioned rage gold is awsome stuff. bondo is good just longer to sand.(bondo has a bad rap couse ppl pile it on inches thick) as long as you get the metal close to height any body filler is just as good as the next for impact.

 

Is there nothing special made for high impact areas?

 

no. bondo it self is a bit harder than rage gold. but it takes longer to sand and doesnt feather as well. you can lead the area. if you still get hit by a car thers still a chance of it coming. what do you mean high impact areas? what are you concerned about?

 

Like maybe accidentally shutting the trunk or doors or hood a little too hard. It doesnt happen often but there has been a time when everyone has shut their car door and stopped and thought damn I closed that awefully hard or thought why did I slam that thing? lol You know, just hard vibration from shutting the doors trunk and hood and possibly cracking whatever I use after 6 months or a year. Would like something to last for atleast 5 or 10 years.

 

oh that would be no problem just as long as you prep the area well. sand it clean it well with prep wash. you dont want the body filler to thick. they say an 1/8 inch but if its well preped and you dont over do the hardner in the body filler theres no reason it cant last a life time. ive built it up to a 1/4 inch with out problems dont make a habit of it.. no worries
