STARTER SHIM
hello mopar people! im in a serious pickle! i have a 71 dodge dart swinger and i lost the shim for my starter. i was installing headers and had to take the starter off and now the shim is no where to be found. any ideas guys? should i just buy a new starter with a shim? it is a 71 swinger with a 318 in it. if anyone else has one laying around i would definitely take it out of ur hands! any help would be greatly appreciated! i would love to get the car outta the garage with the weather being so nice!

Methinks you made the useless post, as you didn't answer the op's question
The OP is probably talking about the dust cover, as no Mopar starters use shims. You CAN get by without it, but I would get on the stick and look for a new cover. The thing is, your open bell down there is a great scoop, just looking for dead animals, mud, rocks, and whatever else to scoop into the flywheel/ converter.

im so sorry guys for not responding! i totally forgot i posted this a couple weeks ago!
about the piece that i lost, it was between the starter and the transmission housing. it fell out when i took the last of the two bolts out to take the starter out! so its not needed at all?
if u need specifics its a 71 dodge dart swinger 318 v8

thats the problem, i lost the shim that fell off when i took the starter off. so i am just wondering if i can just put the starter on without the piece that came with and will it work? can i just use a washer?

To repeat my earlier answer, you CAN do without it. It is NOT a shim, it's a dust cover. You should however find a replacement, as the open bell acts as a scoop for debri, rocks or mud
