Tranny help please

Hi All
The new 360 is in the car and the rebuilt 904. The suspension is done and car has come back home. I have 2 little annoying problems that maybe someone can answer. It has no passing gear when throttle is dumped and I have no back up lights. We all know something is wrong but what it is we don't know. i will be posting some pis soon. Thanx Frank

Frank -

The passing gear could be a missing or poorly adjusted kick-down linkage, but some "worked" trannys don't have that feature.

The back up light problem usually attributed to the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS), and that's an easy fix (replace the part for about 8$), but not usually the problem. The part that activates the switch (inside the tranny) is usually the real culprit.

That's based on a 727, but I think the 904s are similar, yes, I could be totally off base here...

I dont know what mods have been done to this vehicle but you have to make sure your kick down linkage is connected and adjusted correctly.

The Valve bodies for 904 transmissions and 727s are completely interchangeable. The actuator for the neutral safety switch and back up lamp combo are actuated a bracket attached to the shift lever valve actuator.
I also do not know what type of vehicle you have and I have also seen on some early vehicles the neutral switch is on the trans and the reverse lamp switch is attached to the shifter.

Do not drive the car if the kick down linkage is not working as a torqueflight needs this to work and it will burn up very quickly if you drive it with out it.
