Transmission identification help

Transmission identification help

Can somebody point me in the right direction of how to decipher the code on side of my transmission I believe it’s a 727 but would like help with e the stamp code 4058326M6227 85 that’s all the numbers I could get off the side of it thank you in advance

yeah, pan shape tells the tale. what's it in? that's a good hint, too. if it's a passenger car from the '80s with a small block, likely not a 727. but if it's a big truck, 4x4 or the like with a nice payload rating, then it could be.

It was bolted to a 440 and came out of a 75 dodge camper didn't see camper picked up from guy I work with

I'd say chances are good it's a 727 then, though it could technically be called a 36RH or 37RH by then, but same idea.

Oh, it came out of a '75 lol... it's early. Yeah, 99% it's a 727 bud...

There were various 727 transmissions, short tail shaft, park brake drum on the tail shaft and it might have had a flange mount instead of a slipyoak and then the slipyoak but all of these are easy to identify and required a full teardown and rebuild too change the tailshaft.


I forget about the 4x4 727.
