I believe they are pressed in, hence the term "ball joint press". Never heard of a ball joint wrench! Yes, heat is your friend.

Ball joints are NOT pressed in!

You will need a 3/4 inch impact gun on that socket.

How about half price control arms, and screw the ball joint!
