VIN on '72 Satellite
VIN on '72 Satellite
Hi I am trying to start finding some information on my 1972 Plymouth Satellite. I think the right place to start would be trying to break down the VIN number. Does anyone have any info on how I can do that? Thanks

The vin has some info that will verify the motor and where the car was built. For any real info, you need to decode the fender tag on the inside of the drivers fender. And yes, some folks here can tell you everything about it. I can help you with the first 7 digits of the vin, but I dont have the codes for all the options.

R = Plymouth Belvedere/Satellite
H = High
23 = 2 Door Hardtop
M = 400 190HP(net) 1-2BBL 8 CYL
2 = 1972
G = St. Louis, MO, USA
107847 = 7846th Vehicle
Post up a pic of the fender tag and it can also be decoded for you.

Yes it is a very nice car but as you can see the previous owner repainted it and tried to make it into a roadrunner. It also has a 4 barrel instead of a 2 on it. Needs a little work to be a daily driver and can't wait to take it to school.

Dont forget the air-shocks for the improved mileage cause you're always going downhill!
Nothin wrong with the "period correct" look. Some aluminum slots and Mickey Thompson 50's stickin out the sides would tie it together! My current bike project is a 53 custom rigid harley frame, raked with 6+ inches in the front forks and 18" apes and a 73 Shovelhead with a kick-only tranny. The goal is no flash and no billet, only what was available in 73 for a chopper. Like I said, period-correct.
