DeSoto Viper

It took me 18 years to build this car. It started as a father/son build to teach him some "life" skills.. I did get some help along the way with the frame and engine mounts. I got some really good help and some REALLY BAD ADVICE. That bad advice in the end cost me $$$$$. You can see pictures and read kind of tongue in cheek build progression comments on Blog Spot. com Towed 56 or how not to build a hot rod. The blog was done while dealing with some health issues.

This is part of a '00 Dodge Dakota frame, suspension steering etc. It was grafted on and fish plated for added strength. Difference in the frames was less than 1/4 inch in box size. Metal was added and messaged to fit.

Keeping it all Mopar. This is a '99 Ram 1 Ton van rear end with 4.10 posi. Unit was cut to fit the DeSoto body and track. Curry axles were added and Ford racing rear disc brakes.

Yea! That huge red red blob is a "96 Gen 2 Viper! ECU was popped for 500 hp and 500 fpt. It fit after the old huge old heater fan, radiator and housing went. You can see the outline in the bolt pattern on the firewall. Radiator was moved to the front side of the core support and water pump inlet was cut and turned.

All stock dash with new Auto Meter gauges, note the ac, and the shifter connected to a '99 Ram Viper 6 sd. Tremec. I left the push buttons in 'cause I couldn't figure out how to fill the hole.

My upholstery person said we need to spice up the interior a little. She said she had a friend who could do embroidery. This was the first complete car interior she did! Materials are leather and urethane.

Tongue in cheek, we call it a DeS 'per'ota. Sleeper? There are clues which are hard to see in the picture. Small Viper Snake head in the "arrow" on the front fenders and "10" in place on the 8 above the V on the rear fenders. The sound it makes says something is up!
