Tire Fit

I have a 72 Dodge Charger and i need to change the tires to pass inspection and i would like to get new wheels also. At my home currently i have a set of 4 tires with a size of 225/55 16. Im not so concerned about them fitting on the rear end but more on the front, will tires of this large size rub when i turn the wheel? i would rather not have to mount them on new rims and find out the hardway that they do not fit. Also what kind of back spacing would be needed on the rim to clear the drum brakes?

Yes this tire size is a little short for the Charger. 25.7" in OD according to Tire Rack. Use a 7 inch wide wheel with a zero offset.

doug -

I like the tires to fill the wheel wells, but have adequate clearance.
On my 74 Charger I'm running 275-60R/15 TAs in the rear and 21570R/15 TAs in front on standard spaced Crager SS mags. .
Both are approx 28" diameters and fit really well.
