1985 Laser XT

Picked up a non-running 1895 Chrylwr Laser XT. Had not ran for the past 4 years so I removed the fuel tank and cleaned it out. Did not notice anything bad in it. Now, I at least now that the fuel tank is good and am ready for some good gas. Fuel pump spins fine when connected directly to 12 volts.

The engine cranks fine and seems to fire, but won't start. Gave it a couple shots of starting fluid and it responded, yet did not start.

Did the key on/off/on/off/on drill and there are no flashing lights that would indicate a fault code.

Any ideas out there? I am aware of the engine control module that is located behind the passenger side kick plate. Any way to test that other than to take it to a dealer? Prior owner seemed to think it had been replaced once, at some point.

Yhe car needs a few things, but it isn't in too bad shape. Want o get it running before I dump any serious money into it.

Will welcome any input from someone who has had the same problem and/or may be able to direct me in the right direction.

Don

if it will fire on starting fluid but wont stay running, what i do is have a a bottle like windex with the pump trigger with gas. have someone turn it over spray and see if it will stay running spraying gas into the throttle body, if it does, its fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuse, or somthing cloged, then i just go thru it staring from simple to complex.

A little reluctant to run raw gas through the turbo. Was hoping to find some info in how to tell if th ECM is doing its job right or not.

Do you hear the fuel pump spin-up/pressurize when you turn the key to "on"? Do you have pressure at the fuel rail? What motor? Throttle body or injectors? On some of the newer cars, the injectors wont fire without a signal from a sensor to the ECM. Usually a crank position sensor, or cam sensor. A good wrench with a stethoscope can put the rod on the injectors and HEAR if they are firing. Or just use a "noid" light. Did you try swapping another relay with the F.I. relay, or A.S.D. relay?
