2006 dodge dakota steering problem

After replacing almost all suspension parts I still have play in the steering wheel.
New upper and lower ball joints steering shaft etc.
Still have the sloppy play. Just 50000 miles on it. Started a 38K.

Has close to an inch both ways. Also have a rattle in the column when I go over railroad tracks.
Seems like there is some kind of adjustment or something to tighten this up???
I am sure it is in the shaft. I replaced the lower u joint shaft and it made little if any difference.
Help

Thanks

David

Had to replace the steering box in my Ram at 45K miles because of slop. Do yourself a favor and put a genuine Mopar box in it, or do it twice like I did.

Thanks for the reply. Wondering if there is a way to make a adjustment or to tighten the steering column shaft itself. Tried Turning wheel back and forth and could not see any play there. The noise seems to come from the steering column. Like something needs to be tightened. I am thinking there a bolts that might be tightened where the column shaft meets the knuckle????

ReCheck the Rag Joint...... Also Wiggle the steering shaft to see if maybe the plastic shin went bad between the inner and outer shaft?

Just a note.... Some of those problems where covered under a Recall, you might call the dealer and give them your VIN # and see if your was one that needed to come in for the recall?

Thanks for the info I will call the dealership. \

Where is that plastic shim located? How to I get at it?
I know where the shaft goes down from the steering wheel. I do not see how I can get inside there if I have to.
Any help would be appreciated. It is driving me to Drink.
Thanks
David

If it is a tilt wheel there are 3 E30 (male torx) screws that come loose and need to be tightened you do have to get into the steering column and you do need special tool to perform this procedure....Bill

But it still isn't fixed as you can see because you give no help just stupid comments. He posted on 5-3-14 and 3 weeks ago your help did nothing... Maybe you should just not post if you have no help to offer.. I do have things to do, and don't catch all the posts but do try to help offer a fix/help if I can..
