I don't see what you're getting at. I'm not familiar with the newer magnum/ EFI engines, I understand they made a change in the block design, and that newer 318's now take basically a slightly modified 360 pan

On the OLDER engines of the first LA and up through the '80's, 318 pans won't fit a 360 because of the large rear journal

The difference as to vans and pu's is NOT the engine, but the pan itself, cars mostly using front/ center sump pans, and pu's using rear sump pans.

I cannot speak for differences in heavy truck/ motorhome engines

I believe the engine is a 1974 on the side is cast 5-18-74 but here is an example of my question!
(Please be sure that your engine is not a 360 and that it did not come out of a truck or van, it will not work for those applications!)
the engines are the same it the fit in the vehicle thats diff. correct.

what does this engine look like. The date of the casting is on the side of the block.
for the most part. vans used the same pan as the pickups. (not the 71 and earlier pickups though, they were different). Cars used the center sump pan.

yes the engines a re the same. Just the pan and oi; pickup are different. Also, 360 engines are externally balanced and the torque convertor in the trans must be compatible with the 360. (with a balance weight on it.) the 360 block also has slightly narrower ears for the mounting of the engine mounts. (can be easily accomadated for though with some washers used as spacers if you got the 318 mounts and want to install a 360 in place of a 318).
